Provenienz Cette description des armes parlantes de la commune est conforme à celle de l'Armorial d'Alsace (La ville de Lauterbourg, Strasbourg, Re. IIe, n° 252, p. 35) qui s'est inspirée des sceaux de la commune. Les couleurs de livrée de la ville étaient noir et rouge. L'abbé Grandidier (Nouvelles œuvres inédites, t. V, p. 281) donne une description comportant des variantes : « La ville de Lauterbourg porte d'azur à un château d'argent, maçonné de sable, donjonné de deux pièces, ouvert et ajouré de sable».
